Hi, I'm Jessica!

Founder, Stuffies with Stitches

I am a student at the University of Guelph going into my 4th year of studying Molecular Biology and Genetics. I have a passion for crafting and a deep desire to make a positive impact in the world. I started crocheting in middle school and have been hooked ever since.

Why we do it

At Stuffies with Stitches, we believe that no one should have to navigate a health journey alone and that sometimes, the best comfort comes from a friend who truly gets it. The clinical world can feel overwhelming, isolating, and scary, especially when you don't see your own experiences reflected in the world around you. We craft these companions because we know how powerful it is to hold a friend that honours exactly what you are going through. Every stitch is a reminder that your story matters, your bravery is seen, and your healing deserves to be celebrated.

Where it began

I was inspired to start this project after personally witnessing the positive impact of one of my crochet creations. I crocheted a dinosaur plushie for a family friend’s son who was going through medical hardship and had to undergo brain surgery. To my surprise, he absolutely loved this dinosaur, it became a genuine source of comfort for him during such an uncertain and scary time. After being sent a picture of the boy hugging his dino with matching head bandages, the idea for Stuffies With Stitches began to take form. I thought, if I was able to help one boy in such a meaningful way, maybe I can spread that impact even further.
